Trey Phills is the best player in Charlotte, perhaps North Carolina. He has been constantly overlooked because of his size, but Yale University was smart enough to see what everyone else cannot. He just dropped 35 and 9 against an aggressive, long, and attacking Rocky River defense last weekend at the Charlotte Hoops Classic. The guy knows the game so well. In addition to his scoring, he does all of the little things on the floor as well. I watched him handle the ball in transition last weekend and it was effortless. With 7 seconds left and the game on the line, even when Rocky River knew he was going to get the ball and they sent three guys at him, they could not stop him. He made every FT he shot (it was over 10). He was the consensus CISAA coaches selection for Player of the Year in 2013-2014 over much more publicized players like Jordan Watkins, Rusty Regal, and Grant Williams. As a former D1 player and a summer league coach for many of these players, Trey Phills is the top player in Charlotte. The kid from Victory Christian is not even in the same class of player that Phills is. High Major programs missed the boat when they slept on this kid, and just like Seth & Stephen Curry (also from Charlotte Christian)who were both under recruited out of high school because of their size, Trey Phills will join them in the league in the next 5 years. I wish more people see in him what I do, because he does not get the recognition for his game that he deserves.
