Friday weather forecast forcing schools to move football games

Throughout the state, several schools are beginning to move high school football games up a day to Thursday.

The forecast Friday calls for heavy rain and storms in many areas.

As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, only two Observer-area games had been affected, but more than 20 games had been moved.

Observer-area team Sun Valley will play at East Bladen Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and Jordan-Matthews visits Parkwood at 7:30 p.m.

The National Weather Serivce calls for a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms in the Charlotte-area Friday night. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent with temperatures in the high 60s.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools athletics director Sue Doran said CMS had no plans as of Wednesday afternoon to move games.
