Concord High to name football field for EZ Smith Friday night

Friday night, Concord High will rename the football field at the campus' Robert Bailey Stadium for retired football coach E.Z. Smith. Concord hosts Cabarrus County rival Hickory Ridge. The honor came after a recommendation from current Spiders coach Glen Padget and Concord principal Carla Black to the Cabarrus County School Board.

There will be a pre-game reception at the Concord cafeteria from 5-6:30 p.m. and the field naming ceremony will begin at 7 p.m.

Smith resigned in January 2009 after 29 seasons. He started coaching at the school, his alma mater, in 1980 and Smith coached the Spiders to N.C. state championships in 2004 and 2006. He finished with a career record of 254-100-1. Only two of his teams finished with losing records.

Wasn't EASY the one who couldn't stay off the field & took 25 years just to make it to the state finals & never could beat Kannapolis but once or twice?
Didnt we obliterate him 50-0 in his last game coached at K Town in 2008?

The good ole days ...
