Mooresville's Hal Capps selected as NC Shrine Bowl coach

Mooresville High football coach Hal Capps, who has come under fire recently for praying with his players, has been selected as the 2014 N.C. Shrine Bowl coach.

Capps' assistants will be Concord's Glen Padgett, Wilmington Ashley's Tom Eanes, Corinth-Holders Barry Honeycutt, Avery County's Darrell Brewer, Burlington Williams' David Green and West Forsyth's Rick Larrick.

The S.C. head coach is Pelion's Ben Freeman. Freeman's assistants are Chapin's Justin Gentry, Pendleton's Paul Southerland, Hartsville's Jeff Calabrese, West Florence's Trey Woodberry, Christ Church Episcopal's Robert Williams and JL Mann's Joe Watson.

The 78th Shrine Bowl will be played Dec. 20 at Gibbs Stadium in Spartanburg.
