UP, Hopewell: After Friday’s 33-7 win over Vance, Hopewell has won four straight and is tied with A.L. Brown for third place in the MECKA 8. Hopewell plays at Brown next week.

UP, Elijah Hood, Charlotte Catholic: 19-carry, 351-yard rushing performance in a win over Ardrey Kell was the second-highest of his career, fifth-best in Mecklenburg County history. Friday's Roundup
West Mecklenburg 33, Berry 13:
West Meck struggled early but came on late to win its third game in four weeks. The Hawks (8-2, 4-2 SoMeck 8) are ranked No. 11 in the Sweet 16. West Meck finishes its season at rival Harding Friday. Berry fell to 2-8 overall, 1-5 in league play.

Porter Ridge 41, East Meck 13: Porter Ridge jumped on East Meck early, taking a 27-0 lead in the first half. Porter Ridge (7-3, 4-1 Southwestern 4A) has won four of its past five games and is in a four-way tie for first place with Independence, Butler and Rocky River. Porter Ridge ends its regular-season at home with Rocky River next week.

Myers Park 56, Garinger 6: Myers Park led 42-6 at halftime, which was more points than the Mustangs (3-7, 1-4 Southwestern 4A) had scored in a single game all season. Myers Park ended a four-game losing streak. Garinger dropped to 0-10 overall and 0-6 in league play. Myers Park hosts rival East Meck next week. Garinger’s season is over.

Olympic 55, Harding 0: Playing without star running back Isaac Garcia, Olympic ran out to a 48-0 halftime lead and handed Harding its sixth straight loss. Harding (3-6, 0-6 SoMeck) plays West Meck next week at home. Olympic (6-4, 3-3) plays Berry at home.

SouthLake Christian 56, Lake Norman Storm 6: SouthLake’s Robert Washington scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and four in the first half of an easy win. SouthLake led 20-0 after the first quarter and 33-0 at halftime.

Carolina Pride 27, AFC Rangers 22: Carolina Pride, a home-school team in Mecklenburg County, took a 21-8 lead into the fourth quarter. But the Pride had to hold on as the Rangers scored twice in a row to close to take a 22-21 lead before the Pride got a 1-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter. Ryan Jernigan had 14 tackles in the game and two interceptions for Carolina Pride. He has 131 tackles for the season.

By The Numbers

2-95: South Point’s opening drive over North Gaston went 95 yards in two plays. QB Jaquan Brooks did the heavy lifting, however, going 89 yards for a score on the second play. Brooks also had a 74-yard run in the first half.

4-4: Mallard Creek's N.C. State recruit, Jaylen Sanders touched the ball four times in the Mavericks 62-0 win at Robinson. Sanders scored four touchdowns -- three rushing and one receiving.

7-4: A.L. Brown’s Damon Johnson completed 7-of-10 passes against West Charlotte Friday. Four of his seven completions were for touchdowns. He threw for 133 yards.

4:40: Charlotte Catholic’s Elijah Hood came out of his team’s 49-24 win over Ardrey Kell with just under five minutes left in the third quarter. Catholic led 42-14. Hood finished with 351 yards and a Mecklenburg County -tying six rushing touchdowns on 19 carries.

He said it

“We called off the dogs. He could’ve had 450 (yards). He’s very special. He surprises me every week.” -- Charlotte Catholic coach Jim Oddo on the decision to take Hood out of the game so early.

Why not mention Hood being a UNC recruit when you did mention a Florida and a State recruit? I know it's a small detail but still something.

You see what blog owners go through with ignorant comments like that.

Recruit and sign is night and day and over 3 months away.

Where is #1 Scotland? Wouldnt count Butler out with all their exp playoff wins, state titles. SW4a one of the best too. Agree MCHS undeserving of top spot the way they blow it. MECKA4a is weak. Monroe 9-1 not in the pic?.
