Charlotte Catholic's Elijah Hood decommits from Notre Dame

Charlotte Catholic running back Elijah Hood has de-committed from Notre Dame, his father, Vee Hood, told the Observer.

Hood, a 5-foot-11, 220-pound senior, ran for 3,309 yards and 48 touchdowns as a junior. He was the Observer's 2012 offensive player of the year.

He is ranked by the Observer and Raleigh News & Observer as the top senior recruit (class of 2014) in North Carolina.

After taking several visits to Notre Dame earlier in the year, a July visit didn't go so well, Vee Hood said.

"Something happened the last time he went up there that he didn't like," Vee Hood said. "Something changed his mind immediately. He was scared to tell us. I said there's no need to be scared. It's his decision. I told him, 'You've got to be happy wherever you choose to go.' I know he's not going to be going to Notre Dame, and I guess that means he's open to (all colleges) again."

Below is the text of a statement Hood posted to Facebook Tuesday afternoon:

I'll prognosticate UNC or UVA if ACC. Tennessee if SEC

Don't disregard South Carolina. They are bringing in a small class, but it's pretty loaded.

Have you considered Jackson State University? You could be the next Walter Payton.

Nobody chooses to go to USC, King.

This report doesn't jive with Elijah's Twitter feed as recent as early August. But it is what it is and we reasonable Notre Dame fans wish the kid nothing but the best and much success at UNC except when they play ND in 2014! GO IRISH!

Can't wait to watch Elijah go off on State for the next 3 years. Go Heels!

Perhaps the Pope's recent stance on man on man love created an issue with some of the staff there. Oh well, the same thing will happen at Chapel Hill if he commits there

Hood would great in Charlotte 49er green. Build a legacy at home.

You are an idiot....must be a tractor driving, sister raping pack fan. You should really get over your inferiority complex....you still have basketball...oh wait. Nevermind. You do still have your National Champion Bass fishing team.

People need to quit giving this kid attention. He plays for a school that maybe passes the ball 2 times a game. To say he is one of the best backs to come out of NC in years is a joke. Go look up highlights of Andre Brown and Montario Hardesty. They make him look like a full back.

Anywhere but UNC Concord

UNC-CH. 20+ years of academic fraud in order to keep athletes eligible to play sports. Recent UNC-CH graduates: Did you take one of the hundreds of fraudulent classes?

To the brilliant person who said"quit giving this guy attention, the school throws the ball twice a game".

So if CC only throws the ball twice a game, is it safe to say the defense can pretty much predict a run? Yes is the answer!!!!! And he still ran for 3900 yards...

Love theses people on here that don't know football

He must've seen Brian Kelly in the shower.

And have any of you thought that Notre Dame maybe let the young man know that they had someone else that they were looking to give his scholarship to? It is called the ugly side of recruiting.

Unless you have sat in the shoes of a big time college football recruit, all others shouldn't cast stones at this young man. He stated his thoughts in an adult manner. Besides, a verbal commitment is not the same as a written commitment. Good for him for being a man by admitting to his youthfulness.

What his Dad said today was BS. Elijah was ecstatic for weeks after his last visit to Notre Dame. I think Dad's just trying to keep his investment close to home so he can control it. Poor kid.

Maybe he found out Manti Te'o's "girlfriend" was actually one of the coaches. College football is actually a reflection of today's society -- it's a sick world people!

As for State fans dissing UNC...wow. Grow a pair and stop whining. UNC obviously was smarter at cheating than you were. How do you think the SEC dominates every year?

Bleed Crimson. Scholarship switching? Grey shirts? You are projecting. That is the sort of thing they do at NFL franchises like Bama, not at Notre Dame.

Sounds like the old man wanted him close to home. Which I can understand. However it should be about getting the kid into the best school. Now matter how good he is the odds of making a living as a football player is not high. A Notre Dame education would have been a good for him to have. I do wish him luck wherever he goes.

@7:58PM I don't know football? Sounds like you are the one who doesn't have a clue. Off course the defense knows the ball is coming every play. The kid plays for a Wing T team. That offense is based off quick movement and misdirection. That is why he gets so many yards. There isn't a 4A school in the state that runs that offense. And thus the few 4A teams he plays against he has a some success with. Wing T is used to hide undersized linemen and is used nowhere but in small high schools. You could grab Ryan Houston Butler's RB from years back and he would put up the same stats if not better.

He only plays a handful of 4A schools a year. The rest are garbage 3A schools. I have been watching/playing football all of my life. This kid may be highly touted, but he won't do anything on the next level. He is built like a FB but plays running back. Like I said before. Look up high school highlights of Andre Brown and Montario Hardesty. Those guys were the real deal.

You are right on about the Wing-T! It's primarily used by teams with smaller, slower less athletic players. The level of competition he plays against is terrible. He's good but not great!

Oddo has ran that Wing T at that school since the 70s. Who cares?
