West Meck QB Jalen McClendon commits to N.C. State

West Mecklenburg QB Jalan McClendon, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound junior, committed to N.C. State Wednesday, coach Jeff Caldwell told the Observer.

McClendon chose N.C. State over Miami, East Carolina, Marshall and North Carolina.

"I think he liked the family atmosphere that they were promoting," Caldwell said. "That was comfortable for him. He talked to all the coaches and everyone was really open with us. This is our first time dealing with N.C. State. They came right in and were totally honest with everything about them. They were a school not talking about other schools and talked about what their plans for him were. Their plan was to build a program around him. They wanted to build with in-state kids and start with him."

McClendon threw for 1,600 yards and 21 touchdowns passing last season. He rushed for 200 yards. Caldwell said McClendon has grown two inches since the 2012 season ended.
