Vance, Shelby and Freedom make big jumps in Observer Sweet 16 poll

West Charlotte’s boys, No. 2 in the Sweet 16, will play a hot Vance team Saturday night at Waddell. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday.

Vance, No. 8 in the Sweet 16, has won four straight games in the new year for coach Will Robinson, who recently won his 500th game.

The Cougars (12-3, 5-1 I-Meck 4A) trail the Lions (14-1, 6-0) by one game in the conference championship race. Vance, however, will play West Charlotte Saturday one day after facing No. 3 Hough in a big showdown game.

The girls poll remained exactly the same, but the boys poll underwent a big shakeup as several teams lost. Among the biggest moveers were Shelby, which jumped from No. 10 to No. 6 and Freedom, which jumped from No. 13 to No. 7.

Freedom and Hunter Huss got throttled by East Rutherford. Get Freedom out of top 10 because they are not that good.
