Butler High football coach Brian Hales said All-America quarterback Riley Ferguson won’t start for the Bulldogs in Friday’s Southwestern 4A championship game with Independence.
Ferguson, a Tennessee recruit, has missed the past six games with a broken hand. He had his cast removed last week and has been practicing with the Bulldogs. Hales anticipates Ferguson will play in the game.
Ferguson has completed 40-of-65 passes for 726 yards and eight touchdowns this season. His replacements have been Zach Gross (47-74, 863, 8 TDs) and Anthony Ratliff (19-34, 347, 6).
Gross will start Friday’s game, Hales said.
Butler (9-0, 6-0) and Independence (9-1, 6-0) are tied atop the conference. The winner of Friday’s game wins the league title and a top playoff seed.
Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

He coming in when its a blowout? or when it gets close??
Probally reinjured the hand high fiving and goofing off last week at the South meck game. Kids success with football and tv has gone to his head. He will wash out of Tennessee and end up at Lenoir Rhyne like his brother.
I am a die-hard Vance fan so I have no dog in this fight, but would never talk bad about a kid in the paper. Come on guys, let's keep it clean. He is still a teenager with family and friends reading this stuff.
Hey vance fan obviously u haven't met the ferguson clan from mint hill, they have a future on jerry springer...
Real classy of you to say such things about a teenager and his family. Someone should kick this clown off the thread.
