Ryan Alston hired as volunteer football coach at Garinger

Ryan Alston has been hired as a volunteer head football coach at Garinger. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials say the school still plans to hire a permanent head coach this summer. Alston is not a CMS employee.

Garinger has had four losing streaks of at least 18 games since 1989. It's also had a rocky recent history with football coaches.

Last season, coach Lin Fisher was suspended and later replaced. Two years earlier, Terry Liggin had the same thing happen.

Fisher appeared to be getting Garinger turned around. He was named Charlotte Observer All-Mecklenburg coach of the year following a 7-5 record in 2010. Prior to that, Garinger had won six games in six years.

But in 2011, Fisher was removed and Garinger finished 1-9.

Good luck to you Ryan. You know how it worked for you. Now do so for others.

New guy maybe ok. But I played with coach fisher in college. Great man and I wish him luck. It seems to me this school will never get it together and probably was not the place for the talented Coach. Your loss.
