Tuesday night, against Kennedy Charter, Grace Academy's Greta Tamasauskaite had a girls high school game to remember.
She scored what's believed to be a Mecklenburg County record 57 points in an 83-57 win over Kennedy Charter. Her record-setting performance overshadowed a brilliant game from Kennedy Charter's Rajsha Blackmon.
Blackmon, the area's leading scorer (31.8 points per game) and No. 6 rebounder (11.8), had 37 points, eight rebounds, three rebounds and two assists.
Grace Academy took a 22-8 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, and Tamasauskaite set an unofficial record.
According to Charlotte Observer records, Providence Day's Konecka Drakeford held the record since 1991, when she scored 51 points in a win over rival Charlotte Christian. The N.C. record, according to N.C. High School Athletic Association records, is 61 by Shea Ralph of Fayetteville Sanford in 1995.
Tamasauskaite's performance ranks fourth in state history.
