Former Charlotte Hornet point guard Muggsy Bogues is the new boys basketball coach at private United Faith Christian, the Observer has learned.
Bogues, 46, will meet with the players tonight and be officially introduced at a parent/faculty meeting Tuesday afternoon at the school. He replaces Shaun Wiseman, who led United Faith to three straight appearance in the N.C. 1A Independent Schools state championship game. The Falcons won the title in 2009 and 2010.
Wiseman, 34, told the Observer he was exhausted from coaching summer AAU ball, running a series of high level basketball camps across the country and coaching at United Faith. He said he wanted to take some time and "recharge his batteries" and spend more time with his wife and young child.
"I've been done," Wiseman said. "Every time I drive down Providence Road, I ask myself why do I keep doing this, especially with a wife and a young son at home. It's time to concentrate on being a good father for awhile, so something had to go. I can't keep working three full-time jobs."
Wiseman's career record is 254-42. He coached at United Faith for four years, coached one year at the now-closed Hope Christian in Kings Mountain and for four years at Gaston Day. His teams won three state titles.
Bogues was an assistant on Wiseman's first state championship team at United Faith in 2009, which featured one of the players Bogues mentors and coaches, Ian Miller, now a sophomore point guard at Florida State. Bogues is likewise close to another current Falcon, 7-foot senior center Peter Jurkin, who has committed to Indiana.
"The reason I did this mainly was because of Peter's situation," Bogues said. "When I got a phone call from the school, I was kind of shocked. High school coaching wasn't something I was looking for and I thought Shaun was doing a really good job. The time I spent with him, he had the program going in the right direction. I don't know what all took place, but I want to make sure the guys continue to get the attention and development I think they should."

Wiseman didn't resign. He was fired. Should have happend following the Davidson Day game last year. Shakey business dealings at Prep Stars have finally caught up with him as well. He owes former employees, event factilities, and other vendors.

First of all, Wiseman went to 4 straight State title games, winning in '09 and '10. Second of all Anonymous #1, how would you know about his business dealings unless you did business with him? Or are you just a disgruntled Davidson Day fan, jealous of the success Wiseman had at UFCA? Feel free to elaborate where your hatred comes from...
United Faith basketball was a doormat to the area schools before SW decided to go there. 4 straight State Championship games, back-to-back State titles, and don't forget the Glaxo-Smithkline Holiday Championship in '09, a feat no Charlotte team has ever accomplished. End of an era if you ask me, best of luck to Coach Wiseman in the future, he'll have no problems finding a job in the future because he's a great coach.
I have to say that I had the chance to coach against Shaun Wiseman when Ian Miller was a senior and he and his team were class bunch of guys. Our team gave him a run for their money and we earned their respect from that day forward. I have seen him as a person both up close and from far away and has always been very nice. I'm sure he would say that he is not perfect as should the rest of us. We'll see him again I'm sure. Good luck Shaun!

Backing up the guy below me, Wiseman was fired. Wiseman was housing the foreign players together in the same apartment (behind the arboretum on providence rd.) and paying them monthly stipends, which is all HIGHLY illegal if you weren't aware..How do I know this? Because I played with the '09-10 team a lot at open gyms, and even drove them home to their apartment behind the arboretum. Sorry to tarnish this great image you have of him but this is factual information.
