Garinger grad Will Lowery gets his 'Big Break' on Golf Channel

Garinger High graduate Will Lowery, who grew up in Hidden Valley, gets his chance to make it big beginning this week on Golf Channel.

Lowery is one of the golfers chosen for Golf Channel's popular reality series "The Big Break." The new season begins Monday night at 9:30.

These days, Lowery is a former mortgage specialist who plays out of Northstone Country Club. He started playing golf at age 5 and developed an unusual "cross-handed" grip, holding the club with his left hand on the bottom of the club. Most right-handed golfers, like Lowery, hold the club with the left hand higher than the right.

His good spirit and high energy remind me of another Carolinas golfer who started on "Big Break" and landed on the PGA Tour: Tommy Gainey. Like Lowery, Gainey had a little quirk to his game. He wears a glove on each hand and has the nickname "Two Gloves."

Things I wish this article included:

1. What year Will Lowery graduated from Garinger, and what he did there in terms of sports, classes, etc.

2. Where Will Lowery went to college, if applicable.

3. Whether Will Lowery played golf for his Garinger and/or his college.

4. What Will Lowery did after college.

5. What Will Lowery is doing now, professionally and otherwise.

You see, Langston, not all of us know who Will Lowery is. We depend on "professional" "journalists" such as yourself to fill in the freaking blanks. It's the first lesson you're supposed to learn when you become a "reporter."

We know it's hard for you. But try to focus here, ok?

Will's an awesome guy. I don't know if he still is, but at one point he was caddying at Charlotte Country Club. I know he's been playing some mini tour events this year. From what I've heard, he does well on the show, but I don't know if that means he wins or just gets far.

Langston- anonymous 12:23 is 100% correct. This could have been a real feel good story with some effort on your part.

I'll try to feel some of you guys in! Will graduated in in either 2001 or 2002, if he went to college, it was local, didn't go to a big university, I know he was working in mortgage. I can tell you guys this, one thing Will won't do, is get on this show and embarass himself, he's a hard worker, extremely competitive, and just a overall great person. His parent's did a fantastic job with him, and it shows through!
