Antawn Jamison's Right Moves Youth Basketball Event is Saturday

NBA star Antawn Jamison will have his eighth annual March Madness Right Moves For Youth championship Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at Berry Academy.

Right Moves for Youth students will compete in cheerleading, stepping and basketball competitions.

Right Moves For Youth is a nonprofit organization that works with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. Working with students in a group setting, Right Moves offers 72 school-based sites with a volunteer base of more than 500 individuals. It promotes promote positive youth development by enhancing participants' academic accomplishments, leadership ability, life skills awareness, self-esteem, civic responsibility and cultural awareness.

Right Moves For Youth’s “Pay-To-Play” philosophy rewards students for their achievements by providing opportunities to participate in a variety of athletic and cultural activities. Students who “pay” by improving their attendance, behavior and/or academic performance are rewarded with various opportunities to “play”.

Jamison's event is one of the "play" activities. Participation in March Madness is a reward for club members who show continuous improvement in attendance, behavior and academic performance.
