Shocker: Davidson Day upsets nationally ranked United Faith

Davidson Day played nationally ranked United Faith even in the first half and outscored the Falcons by eight points in the third, then held off a late United Faith run for a shocking 74-71 win.

United Faith, ranked No. 24 by ESPN, beat Davidson Day 90-51 at home on Jan. 25, exactly a week after it beat Oak Hill (Va), then the No. 1 team in the nation.

Friday night, Davidson Day got 31 points from Bernard Sullivan and 23 from Dorian Albritton, off-setting a brilliant 32-point effort by Falcon junior point guard Braxton Ogbueze.

What a game!!!

good job Dorian. in every article from this paper last year about Lake Norman it always mentioned what school each player had transferred from. Why doesn't it do the same for these schools? BTW albritton is a transfer from LKN.

Davidson Day has a coach? Who knew?

Putting this performance together despite the loss of starters Keith Belfield and Philip Angelade for the season as well as the injury limiting senior guard and team Captain, Gabe Mercer, says a lot for these boys and their coach.

It is going to be a great conference tournament. A rematch of this game is possible but Victory Christian will likely have something to say as well.

I can't wait to see how Davidson Day can go in the State Championship Tournament. Word of God, Greenfield, and Flora MacDonald, as well as United Faith, will make this a most contested tournament and a remarkable achievement for the victor.

Ron Johnson best HS coach in the state? HAHA!!! All his players came from another public school program! Like to see him come to the public school along with Wiseman.

Spoken like someone that has not met Ron Johnson or witnessed the strength of his program, closeness and positive effect on his players and overall professionalism. I did not make the original comment about him but it was spot on. He is a third parent and role model to the basketball team and many other students at Davidson Day. I don't know Coach Wiseman but the bar is quite high.

Davidson Day coach Ron Johnson is no joke. Is he the best coach in NC? He might be because of is dedication to the game, ability to make players better and getting them ready for the next level. You should be so lucky to have your son play for him. They will meet United Faith again and will be ready win or lose. GO DAVIDSON DAY and good luck in the playoffs!

I have met the man and he is a class act. To the person who is complaining about transferring of young men every kid that transfers to a private school has a home public school if his or her parents choose to move them it is there right to do so. It is about time the north charlotte area has a good academic and sports option. I hear Chad Grier will do the same with the Football team. Undefeated last year as a JV squad and fielding a Varsity team this year.

this will fall on deaf ears... but these private school coaches/AAU coaches will NEVER know how to actually coach a player or manage a game.
They don't develop players. They wait until players are good, kiss their rear ends' by telling them how great they are and steal them away from other schools.

Bernard Sullivan would be a soft, 3-point shooter who doesn't defend anyone if he hadn't played three years for Duane Lewis.

Davidson Day would be a middle of the pack team in the I-MECK or the SW 4A because they don't come to play every night.

It is possible that they could be in the middle of the pack your observation is correct they do not come to play every night and that is a shame because they have a ton of talent.

two comments up is an absolute idiot. bernard sullivan is a great player regardless if he comes from public scool or not. and Davidson day would win the IMECk or any other comference, they may not come to play every night, but Public schoools play no defense and they would have a feild day scoring on whoever!
