Ardrey Kell's Pickett to sign with Maryland today

Ardrey Kell running back Justus Pickett, the Observer's No. 19 recruit in North Carolina, has signed  Maryland, Knights athletics director Cheryl Feeney said.

Pickett chose Maryland over Arkansas, Ball State and West Virginia.

A first-team All Charlotte Observer pick, Pickett rushed for 2,429 yards and 31 touchdowns last season. That was the third-most yards ever by a Mecklenburg County running back in a single season and the ninth-most touchdowns.

Pickett was offensive player of the year in the Southwestern 4A conference.

Great choice, this kid could've played practically anywhere. Remember when he played against my son in the local Pop Warner league. He was a ball of fire then as well. Congratulations to a good kid!!!

Maryland is a good choice? Since when?

24th in the nation last year...not bad. Maryland also has great academics. Congrats to the newest Terp!

To 3:38...the Terps are a good choice because they send kids to the pros. Something like #15/16 in total NFL players out of all D1 schools.

Ardrey Kell was named after two prominent local families in the area known as “Lower Providence” in southern Mecklenburg County [3]. Both families have served the community as farmers, physicians, educators, politicians and church leaders. The school is also located on Ardrey Kell Road.
