Players of week and key games for Week 2 of the playoffs

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

  • Ardrey Kell's Justus Pickett had 371 total yards against South Meck. 
    Country Day QB Morgan Roberts had 318 total yards and accounted for five scores in the Bucs state title win over Charlotte Latin
  • Mallard Creek’s Marquise Williams was 14-of-15 for 257 yards and five touchdowns against Olympic. 
  • Butler’s Riley Ferguson was 8-for-8 for 152 yards and three scores against East Forsyth.
  • China Grove Carson QB Zack Gragg threw for a school-record 329 yards, including seven passes to Cody Clanton for a school record 192 yards against Hickory
  • Belmont South Point’s Troy Leeper, who missed the past two games with slipped disks in his neck, ran for 171 yards in Friday’s win over Gastonia Forestview. 
  • Vance QB Marc Harris threw for 270 yards in a 14-3 win over South Caldwell, his team’s first postseason win in five years.
  • Monroe senior Qwadarius Duboise ran for 232 yards and two TDs in a win over East Surry. Monroe played without injured Duke recruit Jamison Crowder, who scored a Union County best 22 touchdowns in the regular-season.
Games of the Week
  • Ardrey Kell (8-4) at Mallard Creek (12-0): Two of the best players in the nation meet: Mallard Creek QB Williams and Ardrey Kell RB Pickett
  • Hopewell (8-4) at Vance (9-3): I-MECK conference rivals meet for second time. Vance won 34-14 at Hopewell Oct. 29.
  • Berry (10-2) at Unionville Piedmont (11-1): A rematch of the Rocky River conference title game. Piedmont won it at Berry 24-18 Nov. 5.

I'm looking forward to Porter Ridge/West Charlotte. Very intriguing matchup, can't wait to see it.

I agree, Porter Ridge hasn't gotten any love all year from Langston? They are a complete team that dominated most opponents on both sides of the ball and don't rely on just one superstar. Go Pirates!!

Porter Ridge could be the sleeper. Saw them play and they are solid on both sides of the ball.
