Two Albemarle High football stars to miss season

The Stanly News & Press is reporting that Albemarle’s Rusty Parks and Malcolm Hammond violated school guidelines and will miss the season.

Parks, a 5-9 senior, rushed for 1,528 yards and 23 TDs last season. Hammond, a 6-foot senior, ran 37 times for 346 yards and caught 21 passes for 386 yards and eight scores.

Parks was his team's offensive MVP in its N.C. 1AA state championship win last season.

Albemarle is ranked No. 11 in the Observer's preseason Sweet 16 and opens the season Friday at home against Mount Pleasant.
