Mecklenburg County athletics director Vicki Hamilton confirmed that Garinger football coach Terry Liggin (above) has been indefinitely suspended.
Hamilton said Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is conducting an investigation and would not comment further because this is a personnel matter.
Garinger officials have named an interim coach, Lin Fisher, who will coach the team until the investigation is completed.
Garinger starts the season Friday at Myers Park.
Liggin coached the Wildcats to a 2-9 record last season. The Wildcats lost two games by a total of nine points and were close in two more. Those were significant upgrades for a program that has had four losing streaks of at least 18 games since 1989. Garinger has only had four winning seasons since 1975.
