Two of nation's top 4 prep football players from Charlotte-area

Two of the nation’s top five college football prospects will play in the Charlotte-area next season, and three of the top six are from the Carolinas.

MaxPreps, a high school recruiting website, released its top 10 players for the 2010 season Wednesday.

Running back James Wilder of Plant (FL) was No. 1, followed by Rock Hill South Pointe defensive end Jadeveon Clowney at No. 2. Several services rank Clowney as the nation’s top prospect.

Anson Senior linebacker Stephone Anthony was No. 4, and Goose Creek (S.C.) offensive lineman Brandon Shell was No. 6.

Also in MaxPreps top 100: Asheville defensive end Jeoffrey Pagan (No. 11); Butler QB Christian LeMay (No. 12); Mallard Creek QB Marquise Williams (No. 25); Wade Hampton (SC) receiver Hakeem Flowers (No. 52); Dorman (SC) receiver Charon Peake (No. 62); Lake City (SC) running back Shon Carson (No. 67).

-- As expected, Butler is No. 2 in MaxPreps preseason top 25 high school football poll. Rock Hill Northwestern is No. 18. No other Carolina teams appear. The preseason No. 1 team is Trinity (TX).
