Two Meck. Co. players selected in MLB Amateur Draft

Charlotte Christian outfielder Ty Linton was selected in the 14th round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Linton, who signed to play football at North Carolina, hit .448 with 10 home runs and 43 RBIs for the Knights this season.

Linton was the 421st overall player drafted.

Ardrey Kell’s Jack Reinheimer, a shortstop, was drafted in the 31st round by Atlanta. He was the 944th overall pick.

Reinheimer, signed to East Carolina, hit. 378 with three home runs and 28 RBIs this season.

Other N.C. high school selections: James Baldwin, Pinecrest, CF (No. 142 to Dodgers); Pikeville Aycock shortstop Connor Narron (Orioles, No. 148); Northwood pitcher Austin Brice (Marlins, No. 287); Hickory pitcher Tyler Barnette (Red Sox, No. 293); West Brunswick pitcher Jeff Gause (Indians, No. 750); Jamestown Ragsdale outfielder Desean Anderson (Red Sox, No. 923); Graham catcher Matthew Roberts (Diamondbacks, No. 1141); Skyland Roberson shortstop Joel McKeithan (Rockies, No. 1190); Wilmington Hoggard outfielder Jeff Bouton (Nationals, No. 1346).

-- Former Myers Park pitcher Tom Girdwood (class of ’07) was selected by the Twins in the 15th round. He played three years at Elon. He was the 465th pick overall.
