Concord Cannon basketball star, Keith Belfield, transfers

Area basketball standout Keith Belfield, a major college prospect, has transferred from Concord Cannon and enrolled at Davidson Day, Davidson Day coach Ron Johnson told the Observer.

Belfield, a 6-foot-6, 180-pound guard/forward, was an all-conference pick in the Charlotte Independent Schools conference. He averaged more than 20 points and was a first-team Charlotte Observer All-Cabarrus News selection.

Belfield has offers from Charlotte, Furman, Liberty, Presbyterian and Richmond, plus interest from Appalachian State, Davidson, Georgia, Virginia Tech and William & Mary.

He'll join a Davidson Day team that was 22-7 and reached the N.C. 1A state quarterfinals before losing to eventual state champion United Faith. Davidson Day is expected to return the bulk of the 2009-10 team.
