Rankin, a 6-foot point guard, is a three-time all-conference pick and has made the past two Charlotte Observer All-Observer teams.
"This is for better college preparation, academically and athletically," Lamar Rankin said. "Athletically, this will get him ready to play in the ACC next season. He can be better prepared. He will be ready to come in at Virginia Tech and play right away."
Rankin will leave for Hargrave Aug. 24, his father said. Until then, he'll work out in Charlotte and attend summer camps all over the country. He's also playing for NBA star Chris Paul's CP3 AAU team.
