South Pointe's Clowney No. 1 overall prep football recruit, a national recruiting website, has named Rock Hill South Pointe's Jadeveon Clowney as the nation's top high school football recruit for the class of 2011.

Clowney, a 6-foot-6, 235-pound junior, was the Observer's defensive player of the year last season. Clowney finished his junior season with 144 total tackles, 3 caused fumbles, 29 QB pressures, 23 sacks, 4 blocked passes and 22 tackles for loss.

Clowney is being heavily recruited by Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Maryland, Miami (Fl), Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina State, Tennessee and UCLA.

Clowney and Rock Hill South Pointe will play in Charlotte Sept. 3 at Independence.
