Providence's Brett Austin is Southwestern 4A baseball player of the year

Providence’s Brett Austin is the Southwestern 4A baseball player of the year.
Austin is a 6-foot, 188-pound junior catcher and outfielder for the Panthers. He hit more than .400 this season for the Panthers (18-8).

Austin and junior shortstop Jake Fincher have committed to N.C. State.

“He’s one of the rare ones that’s been blessed, he’s got tremendous ability and works hard,” Providence coach Danny Hignight said. “Yout put those two together, and you’ve got something special.”

South Meck’s Jonathon Tuscan is the conference coach of the year.
