Ardrey Kell's Jen Rosene named SW4A softball player of the year

Ardrey Kell pitcher Jen Rosene is the Southwestern 4A softball player of the year.

Rosene led the Knights to their second straight Southwestern 4A tournament championship.

Rosene limited state power Butler to four hits and struck out eight in a 6-0 win May 10. She also had an RBI double in the third inning and was named MVP of the tournament.

Rosene helped Ardrey Kell reach the second round of the playoffs, where the Knights lost 3-2 to Kernersville Glenn.

Rosene finished ninth in the school’s senior class academically and has signed an athletic and academic scholarship to College of Charleston.

“She’s just a great human being,” coach Bob Bove said.

Butler’s Brian Cottom, whose team won the regular-season championship, is the conference coach of the year.
