Former South Meck girls star Joy Cheek drafted into WNBA

Former South Mecklenburg girls basketball star Joy Cheek was drafted by Indiana with the 35th pick in Thursday's WNBA draft.

Cheek, a 6-foot-1 senior at Duke, was named Ms. Basketball in 2006 after she led South Meck's Sabres to the school's first state title. It was the first state title by a Mecklenburg County team in 20 years.

Cheek is the 14th Blue Devil to be selected in the draft in school history.

WNBA huh? If Joy is straight, I hope she is at least making enough to hire a couple of security guards to protect her from the lesbians ;-)

If you are going to post something that distasteful you should at least put your name on it. What a cowardly, hateful, thing to say. Congratulations to Joy and her family.

Congrats to the Cheek family, Boris and Mrs. Cheek have been fully committed despite their schedules to Justin and Joy academically and athletically; and their children's results speak for them.

To the April 9 question of where are the other two star girl basketball players from South Meck who were seniors with Joy... Betsy Horowitz just graduated from Virginia Tech after playing D1 volleyballhttp://www.hokiesports.com/volleyball/players/horowitz_betsy.html Erica Williamson graduated in January from Notre Dame after 4 years as their center. She now plays in Germany with the Halle Lyons.
