West Caldwell advances in 2A regionals

GREENSBORO – West Caldwell had trouble scoring all game against Winston-Salem Carver’s zone Friday in the N.C. 2A Western Regional semifinal. And the Warriors struggled at the free throw line at the end of regulation and overtime.

Finally, West Caldwell star K.J. Jones made two free throws with 24.4 seconds left – after missing two just seconds earlier – and then watched as Carver missed two potential game-winning attempts in the Warriors 41-40 N.C. 2A Western regional semifinal win.

West Caldwell (26-2) advances to Saturday’s 8 p.m. regional final against either Berry or Sylva Smoky Mountain. The winner of that game goes to next week’s 2A state championship.

After Jones’ free throws, Carver’s Richard Daniels got a good look at a game-winning jump shot. It missed. Then teammate Marion Hall’s tip-in went in and popped out at the buzzer – and set off a huge West Caldwell celebration.
