Butler girls advance to regional finals again

GREENSBORO – Butler beat McDowell 69-43 to advance to its second straight N.C. 4A regional Thursday but didn't look impressive doing it.

McDowell (27-2) didn't have the firepower to match the Bulldogs (24-4), but Butler never seemed locked in. McDowell had more turnovers (20) than field goals (17) and shot only 35 percent, but was able to get within nine in the fourth quarter.

Butler finished the game with a 21-4 run, led by Clair Watkins (23 points, 11 rebounds, 7 blocks) and Cierra Burdick (16 points, 10 rebounds). McDowell got 17 points and 9 rebounds from Xandi Gellman.

Butler 14 14 18 23 – 69
