Providence Day girls reach sixth straight state title game

Providence Day's girls, the top seed in the N.C. Independent Schools 3A state tournament, advanced to their sixth straight state championship game with Friday's 43-27 win over Cary Academy in the semifinals.

The Chargers (23-6) will play either Hickory Grove or Charlotte Christian in Saturday's 6 p.m. state final at Forsyth Country Day.

Hickory Grove upset Providence Day in the 2009 state final, ending the Chargers run of four straight state titles.
