Charlotte Catholic sweeps 3A West Swimming regional

Charlotte Catholics boys and girls won the N.C. 3A Western swim regional Sunday at the Huntersville Family Fitness & Aquatic Center.

The Cougars girls scored 504 points, well ahead of second place Waynesville Tuscola (307) and Marvin Ridge (286). Catholic’s boys finished with 252.5 points to beat Marvin Ridge (187) and Concord Robinson (177).

Team winners for the Cougars included: Catholic’s girls 200 medley relay (Erin Gaeckle, Christen McDonough, Dana Pruitt, Ashlynn Koletic), 400 freestyle relay (Gaeckle, Pruitt, Cara Gilligan, Koletic) and 200 freestyle relay (Allie Miller, Gilligan, Julia Neal, McDonough).

Catholic’s individual girls winners: Gaeckle (200 free, 100 back), Koletic (50 free, 100 free), Neal (500 free), McDonough (100 breast)

Weddington’s Katherine Plevka won the 200 IM.

Concord Robinson’s boys won the 200 medley relay (Griffin Fiedler, Chad Heiser, Rene Brown, Forrest Cannon).
Marvin Ridge (Evan White, McKee Christiansen, Lane Bretschneider, Jacob White) won the 200 free relay and 400 free relay (same group).

Individually, Hickory’s Graham Williams won the 200 and 500 free; Weddington’s Joseph Guthman won the 200 IM; Hickory St. Stephens’ Sava Turcanu won the 100 free; Concord Hickory Ridge’s Zack Lambert won the 100 back; and Lenoir Hibriten’s Kyle Hites won the 100 breast.
Southlake Christians boys and girls won the MAC conference championships.
