Butler girls stop Myers Park, advance to conference championship

Butler's girls beat Myers Park 73-30 to advance to the Southwestern 4A championship game.

Myers Park (17-9) played without 6-4 center Tiffani Stephens (knee), an Observer pick for first-team all-conference.

Butler got 18 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals from junior Tennessee recruit Cierra Burdick. Senior Vanderbilt recruit Clair Watkins had 16 points and 8 rebounds.

Point guard Lea Saunders, who joined the team this month, played a strong floor game, scoring 9 points on three 3-point shots. She handled the ball well.

Hope whoever Butler plays wins. Coach Stephanie Butler is one of the nastiest coaches in CMS. She makes Knotts look like a Rose. I have never witnessed such poor sportsmanship with a coach and team as I have seen this year with Butler.

I hope whoever Butler plays the beat. The coach really is passionate about the game and she really works her girls really hard to prepare the for not only high school but also college. Nobody in CMS does a better job in preparing their kids for what ahead of them.

I agree Coach Butler is a great coach. She really demands the most out of her kids not only on the court but also in the classroom.
