United Faith loses star player for the season

Reigning N.C. Independent School 1A state champion United Faith will play the rest of the season without 6-8 center Kadeem Green.

Green, who has signed with Missouri, ruptured his Achilles' Tendon in practice last week and will be out nine months.

"It's a real freak injury," Falcons coach Shaun Wiseman said. "He just planted to put his back and went backwards to go forwards. Then he went down."

Wiseman said Missouri would honor Green's scholarship but that the senior forward might miss all of the college's preseason workouts. Green was averaging 12 points and 9 rebounds for United Faith, which lost to Greenfield School last weekend without him and beat Wayne Country Day. United Faith is 14-3.

The team is now down to only two seniors: Florida State recruit Ian Miller, a 6-2 guard, and 6-8 forward Nemanja Mikic, who is being recruited by Charlotte, Harvard, Princeton, Long Beach State, New Mexico, Auburn, Colorado, Louisiana Tech and Winthrop.

"I told everybody we're young all year," Wiseman said. And we keep getting younger."

United Faith plays at Gaston Day Tuesday and then flies to Missouri Wednesday for the Bass Pro Shop Tournament of Champions against a national field. Monday, the team plays Greater Atlanta Christian in the Martin Luther King Day Hardwood Classic. That game will be available at 6 p.m. at
