Myers Park football coach Jim Ruark is leaving to take the head football job at East Burke, sources told the Observer Monday night.
Efforts to reach Ruark were unsuccessful. Ruark coached the Mustangs from 2003-2009.
Ruark led the Mustangs to a 9-4 record and a second-round playoff berth in 2004. In 2005, the Mustangs finished 9-6 and reached the N.C. 4AA state semifinals.
Myers Park has not won more than five games in a season since the 2005 season and has not finished a season with a winning record.
The Mustangs opening means CMS has football openings at Ardrey Kell, Independence, Myers Park, West Meck and two new schools opening this fall: Hough High in northern Mecklenburg and Rocky River in Mint Hill.

Maybe now M.P. will start having a winning season!
You got to go after Adrian Snow at West Forsyth... I'm tellin' ya- He is a young guy with old-school enthusiasm... He values education, works well with administrators and looks just like the coach at Green Bay!
Coach Ruark really had a heart for the kids. He cared about character. Sorry to see him go.
Jim Ruark is probably one of the finest men we have encountered in public high school sports. His work ethics, determination, dedication to the development of young men is to be admired. He has a remarkable ability to lead, coach, direct, manage, encourage, discipline, teach, guide, enhance, and change the lives of young men. Plain and simple, Myers Park will be hard pressed to find a replacement for Coach Ru.
Coach Ruark was a good coach for us he really cared for us. now i just hope the next coach can come in and help us win more games then we been winning in the past
Jim Ruark is very mediocre, I wonder why they did it ?
Jim Ruark had his own agenda and was not truly the man he portrayed himself to most. He was not liked by the athletes and his subpar record can show for it.
