Capps is new football coach at Mooresville

The new football coach at Mooresville High, Hal Capps, might be familiar to Charlotte-area fans. Now he'll join a league made up primarily of Mecklenburg County teams: the I-MECK 4A.

Capps left Western Alamance for his new position at Mooresville. At Western Alamance, Capps team lost to Concord 35-28 in the 2006 3A final and beat North Gaston 62-36 in the 2007 3A final, finishing off a 16-0 season.

In 2004, Charlotte Catholic beat Capps' Western Alamance team 14-7 in the N.C. 2AA final.

He's been Western's head coach since 1992. He led the team to 15 straight winning seasons, including the 2007 state championship. Western Alamance reached state finals in 2004, '05, '06 and '07

Capps' career record is 168-69. He's a 1983 Catawba College graduate.

Mooresville was 0-11 last season under Steve McCurry, who resigned after his only season.
