Butler's Clair Watkins commits to Vanderbilt

Butler High girls basketball player Clair Watkins has committed to Vanderbilt.

Watkins, a 6-foot-4 senior center, originally committed to Duke as a junior. But last October - just a month before high school players can sign a letter of intent that binds them to a school – Blue Devils coaches told her she wouldn’t be happy at Duke. The team would honor the scholarship they had offered, but she likely wouldn’t play.

Watkins decided to re-open her recruiting process.

Watkins’ mother, Nancy, said her daughter took visits to Texas, Indiana, Georgia and Vanderbilt before choosing the Commodores.

Congratulations young lady! I hope during your career the Commodores get a chane to play Duke and you score 40 on those coaches as you girls eliminate them in the NCAA tournament. Best of luck.

I don't like the way the situation was handled at Duke, but making personal attacks on the girls that are there (dykes? really?) is completely uncalled for and really does not help matters. I wish that Duke could actually comment on it and that Coach P could explain her rationale (or lack thereof) for the matter turning out the way it did. I commend Clair for showing such resolve and determination and finding a great fit at Vanderbilt!
