Bullock, Kinston win battle of UNC recruits

Saturday night in Chapel Hill, a pair of North Carolina recruits met in a specially organized high school basketball game that drew 1,334 to the Smith Center.

The Kinston Vikings (11-3), a 2A team led by Tar Heel senior recruit Reggie Bullock, played the 4A Greensboro Dudley Panthers (10-4), led by Tar Heel junior recruit P.J. Hairston.

Kinston won 68-63. Kinston's senior class has gone undefeated against Dudley in four meetings, including in the 2007 and 2008 Eastern regional championship games. In 2009, Kinston beat Dudley in the state quarterfinal.

Saturday, Dudley led by six at halftime but was outscored 27-9 in the third period before the Panthers made a big comeback in the fourth quarter. Kinston hit its free throws late in front of North Carolina coach Roy Williams to seal the win.

Hairston, a 6-6 guard, led all scorers with 24 points. He was 9-for-19 from the field and made 5-of-12 3-point attempts.

Bullock, a 6-7 wing, had 23 points and 15 rebounds. It was his seventh consecutive double-double.
