Tuesday's basketball highlights

Monet Tellier scored 24 points and Aliyah Kilpatrick had 14 as East Mecklenburg, No. 2 in the Observer Sweet 16, beat Myers Park 57-41 in Southwestern 4A girls’ basketball Tuesday.
Jaymee Fisher-Davis scored 10 for East Meck (8-0, 1-0 in conference). Tiffani Stephens scored 20 for Myers Park (3-3, 0-2).

Brittnee Roberts, a sophomore guard, scored a career-high 33 as Kings Mountain beat visiting Lawndale Burns 63-48

Ardrey Kell’s 17-0 first quarter sparked a 57-31 victory at Independence in a Southwestern 4A game. Amanda Tyson scored 20 and Erica Chandler 17 for the Knights (9-1).

Alex Guiraud had 14 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds in Lincoln Charter’s 68-38 victory at Covenant Classical.

Shannon Hines’ 36 points led R-S Central to a 76-55 victory against East Rutherford in the South Mountain 3A/2A opener. Melissa McLaughlin scored 14 and Mercedes Davis 13 for the Hilltoppers (4-2, 1-0 conference). Shaquisha Dawkins scored 19 for East Rutherford (6-1, 0-1), which had a six-game winning streak snapped.

The Charlotte Catholic at West Mecklenburg games Tuesday were postponed until Feb. 3 because Charlotte Catholic is taking exams this week.

Gastonia Forestview built a 49-14 halftime lead and crushed visiting Boiling Springs Crest 76-34. Shannon Smith scored 22 for Forestview (6-0), and Kelsey Harris and Bre Armstrong scored 18 apiece.

Concord’s four double-figure scorers, led by Jhemelia Edwards’ 20 and K.C. Shue’s 17, led to a 79-48 romp against Northwest Cabarrus.

Boys’ basketball

Terrence Hampton’s 30 points, and strong games by Damon Magazu (16 points) and Jared McKinney (15), led Providence to a 77-60 victory at South Mecklenburg. K. J. Ross scored 25 for the Sabres (0-8).

David Johnson’s 28 points helped Garinger (1-5) snapped a five-game skid with a 67-58 victory against East Gaston.

Terry Whisnant scored 40 and Thomas Bess added 23 as Cherryville improved to 4-0 with a 79-78 victory at West Lincoln.

Seniors Shane Adcock (27 points, 12 rebounds) and Spencer Owens (15 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds) each had a double-double in Cramerton Christian’s 56-36 home victory against Rockwell. Adcock, a 6-foot-6 center, and Owens, a 6-4 point guard, helped Cramerton to a 22-2 lead after the first quarter.

Eric Howell had 20 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks in Kennedy Charter’s 63-50 victory against Asheville. Terrell Houston added 14 points for Kennedy (7-1).
