Carrothers and Magazu don't make the coference teams, but are the O and D players of the year? Where's Shembo-makes Shrine Bowl, but not SW4A team? TE from AK can't catch a cold. Saw about 5 of AK's games--saw Ali, but no idea who the other OL is. Never saw Kennedy from SM play defense.
How are these teams picked?

O and D players of the year are usually separate from the rest of the all-conference team as special recognition for them. As for Shembo, the Shrine Bowl is picked more based off of offseason combines and word of mouth among coaches since the Shrine Bowl coaches don't get that much of a chance during the season to see the players because they are busy with their own teams. Barton from AK was the center at the beginning of the season, finished at right guard. He was a 4 year starter on the line for AK. I think the teams are picked by the coaches in the conference, so I'm pretty sure they know what they are doing when they pick these teams. Hope this helped to answer some of your questions.

Tom Knotts should be coach of the year, to take his team as far as he did without any major college recruits is remarkable. Congrats to Newsome but he has plenty of talent and anybody can coach that team. Knotts should be coach of the year and the Shrine bowl coach.

I am a parent of a Independence football player. What independence fought through this year is a testament to the coaching staff and the kids. My son is a senior and he played on the last Independence State championship team in 05. That team was surely more talented but didn't have nearly as much heart and cohesiveness as this 2009 team.
