Bojangles' Shootout returns to original format

After several years of featuring national prep powers and some of the nation's best players, this year's Bojangles' Shootout is featuring an all area field.

Five boys teams were ranked in the Observer's preseason Sweet 16: No. 1 Hopewell, No. 2 Concord Cannon, No. 6 Ardrey Kell, No. 7 Charlotte Christian and No. 16 Harding.

Four girls teams were ranked: No. 3 Gastonia Forestview, No. 10 Harding, No. 12 Hopewell and No. 14 Mallard Creek.

The tournament runs Dec. 28-30. The Dec. 28 games will be at the Grady Cole Center. The best first day game features N.C. public school state semifinalist Hopewell against private school state semifinalist Charlotte Christian. Hopewell beat Cannon 57-55 to win the local boys division championship last season. Charlotte Christian won four straight local division championships before that.

Christian and Hopewell will play at 8:30 p.m. Dec. 28 at Grady Cole.

Tickets are $10 per day for students and youth and $12 for adults. A three-day pass for students and youth is $28. It's $34 for adults.
