Ardrey Kell volleyball stops Mount Tabor moves to state semifinals

The magical season for Ardrey Kell's volleyball team kept going Saturday.

The Knights won their first Southwestern 4A conference tournament game last month and went onto win the first conference tournament in school history.

The Knights, the No. 2 seed from the Southwestern 4A, continued their run in the postseason with a 3-0 win at Winston-Salem's Mount Tabor Saturday. Ardrey Kell won 27-25, 25-21 and 25-16. Mount Tabor was the No. 1 seed from the Central Piedmont conference and had just beaten Southwestern No. 1 seed Myers Park and had not lost a game in the state playoffs.

Ardrey Kell (23-5) will play at North Mecklenburg (25-2) in Tuesday's N.C. 4A Western regional championship game. The winner will advance to the state finals. North Meck (25-2) beat rival Hopewell 3-0 Saturday.
