Tuesday's top prep performers

Myers Park High, the reigning N.C. 4A girls' tennis champion, won its 26th straight match in dominant fashion Tuesday.
The Mustangs (8-0) swept East Mecklenburg 9-0, and improved to 2-0 in Southwestern 4A.
Myers Park's top five singles players – Grace Baker, Jessica Perez, Victoria Hughes, Amy Bell and Olivia Turnbull – won by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Teammate Taylor Hayworth won 6-0, 6-1, and Myers Park didn't lose a game in the three doubles matches.

Charlotte Catholic improved to 11-2 with a 9-0 sweep against West Mecklenburg.
The Cougars won 72 of 74 games as Julia Paulson, Ashley Verhein, Meagan Laframboise, Lucia Leahy, Mary Katherine Ferebee and Kelly Tomlin won singles matches.

Providence maintained a share of the Southwestern 4A lead with a 9-0 victory against South Mecklenburg. The Panthers (4-1, 2-0 conference) got singles victories from Katie Porter, Catherine Matulis, Morgan McGowan, Hannah Dotson, Autumn Arciero and Johanna Markiewitz.


North Mecklenburg's perfect season (13-0) rolled on with a 25-12, 22-25, 25-18, 25-10 victory against rival Hopewell in an I-Meck 4A match. Ali Cooke had 19 kills, Blair Atkinson had 28 assists and 10 digs, and Paige Zartman had 10 digs.

Kelsey Newman's 10 aces, 12 kills, 10 digs, four blocks and 11 service points led Charlotte Catholic (11-5) to a 25-15, 25-17, 25-17 sweep against Myers Park (9-3).

Mooresville rallied to beat Lake Norman 19-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-20 in an I-Meck 4A match. Molly Markley had 15 kills and Melanie Lowrance had 11. Heather Wagner had 32 digs and Blade Compton had 21 for Mooresville (6-2, 4-2).

Fort Mill Nation Ford beat Rock Hill Northwestern 25-19, 25-18, 25-13 in the S.C. Region 3 4A opener. The Falcons (10-1,1-0) were led by Sara Bebeau (16 kills, five digs, three aces), Ally Lambert (six kills, five digs), Morgan Wolf (12 digs) and Sheila Walsh (29 assists, three aces).

Nate Clark scored two second-half goals in Lincoln Charter's 2-0 victory against West Lincoln. Goalkeepers Andrew Campbell and E.J. Morphew shared the shutout, and Zach Taylor and Mason Peterson had assists for Lincoln Charter (7-4).

So in Boys soccer Tuesday night, Myers Park beats Ardrey Kell on the road and East Meck beats Butler, and the only comments are about Lincoln Charter vs West Lincoln? Oh, brother!
