Kevin Scott scored four goals and had three assists in Hickory Grove Baptist’s 8-3 victory against Statesville Christian in boys’ soccer Tuesday.
Freshman Chris Pillsbury and senior Sina Safaie had a goal and assist apiece for the Lions (6-1), and Jacob Farthing and Miles Duncan each scored. The eight goals were a season-high for Hickory Grove, which has a six-match winning streak.
Daniel Degraff scored all three goals for Statesville Christian (3-2).
Kyles Searles’ two goals bumped his team-leading total to eight, and helped Butler roll to a 5-2 victory against Concord Robinson. Robby Beatty, Morgan Boyle and Ryan McIntyre also scored for Butler (5-1-2).
East Mecklenburg beat West Mecklenburg 6-2 behind three goals from Riffin Kanjangu, and improved to 4-4. Gibril Freeman scored both goals for West Mecklenburg (1-5).
Maverick Starkey scored three goals in Northside Christian’s 5-1 victory against Concord First Assembly. Stetson Starkey and Zac Dunn also scored for the Knights (3-3-1), who improved to 2-2 in the Metrolina Athletic Conference.
Lui Galleto scored three goals and Ben Weathers had two in Charlotte Christian’s 7-0 victory against Victory Christian. Cody Hand was in net for the shutout.
Myers Park (4-0), the reigning N.C. 4A champion, didn’t lose a set in a 9-0 romp against Hopewell. The Mustangs got singles victories from Grace Baker, Anna Rickenbaker, Emily Carpenter, Kelsey Sherck, Samantha Forlenza and Victoria Hughes.
Lake Norman (5-2) didn’t lose a set in a 9-0 victory against North Iredell.
Kelsey Newman’s 20 kills, 10 digs, eight aces and four blocks helped Charlotte Catholic sweep East Gaston 25-9, 25-13, 25-15 in a MEGA 7 4A/3A match. The Cougars (7-4) are 3-0 in conference.
North Mecklenburg improved to 8-0 with a 25-3, 25-11, 24-26, 25-16 victory against South Mecklenburg (3-4).
Myers Park maintained its Southwestern 4A lead by rallying to beat Ardrey Kell 20-25, 25-17, 17-25, 26-24, 15-9 The Mustangs (6-1) are 3-1 in conference. Ardrey Kell fell to 6-2, 2
Katie Kirk’s nine-hole score of 36 was nine strokes than any competitor, and she helped North Mecklenburg win a six-team I-MECK 4A tournament at Sunset Hills Golf Course. Mallard Creek’s Morgan Zemaitis (45) was second.
