Preseason football scrimmage schedules

High School football season unofficially starts Wednesday with the first scrimmage games.

One of the area's most anticipated is the annual Charlotte Catholic-Independence scrimmage. Since 2000, these two have won nine state championships combined and played in 12 state championship games.

The teams meet Wednesday at Independence. Kickoff is at 7. Observer reporter Langston Wertz Jr. will offer live updates from that scrimmage at twitter.com/langstonwertzjr

Wednesday: Catholic at Independence, 7 p.m; Myers Park at Shelby (with East Burke and South Point), 6 p.m.; Porter Ridge at Providence Day, 6 p.m.; Butler at Olympic, 8 a.m.; York at Ardrey Kell, 6; East Meck at North Forsyth, 6; Mallard Creek at Gastonia Forestview, 9 a.m.; North Meck, Davie County, Ashbrook at South Meck, 6 p.m.

Thursday: Country Day at Fort Mill, 6:30 p.m.; North Meck at Harding, 6 p.m.; South Meck at Hopewell, 7 p.m.; Concord at West Charlotte, 7 p.m.

Friday: Waddell and Cox Mill at Myers Park, 7 p.m.; Ardrey Kell at Clover, 7 p.m.; Berry at Butler, 7 p.m.; Independence at Rock Hill Northwestern jamboree, 6 p.m.; Olympic at Providence, 6 p.m.; South Meck at Fort Mill Jamboree, 8 p.m.; West Meck at Vance, 8 a.m.

Saturday: Hickory Grove at Providence Day, 6 p.m.; Carolina Pride at Country Day, 10 a.m.; Charlotte Christian at Greensboro Smith Jamboree, 5 p.m.; Catholic at Monroe (with Sun Valley and Charlotte Latin), 8:30 a.m.; Harding, Mallard Creek, West Charlotte at Gastonia Huss Jamboree, 7 p.m.; Spartanburg at Independence, 6 p.m.; Waddell vs Chesterfield at Cheraw Jamboree, 8 p.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 18: Country Day at Charlotte Latin, 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 19: Vance at Harding, 6:30 p.m.

You guys left off a big one. The Border Showcase on Friday the 14th at Crest. Byrnes (SC) is playing Shelby, and Gaffney is playing Crest. How could you not include that on your list?
