Langston, you left the "t" out of Butler. Figure I'd point that out before folks start making snarky comments about it.
Thanks for your work.
Buler . . . Buler . . . Buler . . . Ferris Buler. It's too late Langston (or should we call you Ben Stein?)
He's too busy playing video games...
Can we stat Langy's annual enshrinement of Butler now? Can we just have the rest of the staff fall to their knees to worship at the altar of Independence? Guess what guys, there are MORE than 2 schools that play football in the area. Have you ever HEARD OF balanced coverage? How about you kick the bias to the curb this season and list ALL the teams that do well?
Oh I think we do a pretty good job with the balance part. Some of that happens when you get late into playoffs and not many other teams are playing or we do our advances leading up to their big game at the end of the year.
And if you have two 10-0 squads with that kind of rivalry, you should write about it. But we cover all of our local schools pretty well I'd say, but if not, point out to me what we're missing.
This is a new year. We can certainly do better.

Concord is never on the list at the beginning of the season.....only at the end of the season, when it counts!
All we care about is our Tarheels and the bright players that want to come to Chapel-Hill after the little leagues are over. Just mention those teams with recruits going to UNC for fair and interesting coverage!
I guess we are just writing off South Meck. They may have lost a few players, but they are one tough team....Langston go back to writing video game reviews....
I fixed.
This is not a complete sentence.
hahaha. concord, hasn't been ranked in the top 10 for a few yrs now.. you're a basketball school now right ?
"I guess we are just writing off South Meck. They may have lost a few players, but they are one tough team....Langston go back to writing video game reviews...."
Actually I love doing the video game reviews. Playing Madden 10 and NCAA 10 as we speak. Madden is awesome by the way. I got the full version today.
As for writing off South Meck, I'm certainly not. First of all, just because you don't appear in a preseason top 10 poll doesn't mean you won't have a great season. There's lot of 4A teams in town.
Secondly, this is not an Observer poll. I think it clearly says NC Preps preseason poll at the top. Langston, and his videogame loving self, had nothing to do with it. I just present it to forward the discussion.
I enjoy doing that, too.

Langston, a off topic question. As a African American male who's opinion I respect, what do you make of the President getting involved in the Gates mess. I was sorry to see him make comment and then have this issue come up during his health care push. I'm a republican and I support his goal of health care. Too many of us don't have it or cannot afford it.
Knotts hasn't walked off the field as a loser to a CMS team since 1992One amazing streak. Come watch Indy practice, you'll see why they are the best.
I have watched Indy practice as well as Butler and you are right. Although they are both very good, Indy is just very consistent and disciplined in their drills.
Preseason polls are just somthing to get readers fired up over. They mean very little.
As a person who covers high school football in North Carolina, Independence is very worthy of being ranked first. At least at this point, they're clearly better than Butler.
Butler is the second best team, or like I say, 1-B.
Don't be so sure Richmond is third though. They lost a ton of starters on defense.
East Mecklenburg very well may be third followed by Richmond.
In the 3A, Douglas Byrd in Fayetteville is clearly the best team, no questions asked. Russell Stone's Eagles would be a top 4 team in 4-AA. Remember they did demolish Richmond County 42-7 and return 90% of their starters from last year's 4-A runner up team.
Kannapolis is much to young to be ranked and Rocky Mount lost loads of talent and a coach so that's veyr premature having them ranked so high.
Asheville must be under the radar for the pollsters because they should be ranked in the top 3 or 4.
West Rowan is clearly the #2 team but they do lack some offensive linemen and a good corner.
In the 2A, Reidsville lost a coach, and a vast number of seniors. The coach told me that while they'll be athletic, they will start a large number of sophomores.
Thomasville should be the clear #1 in the 2A. The 2A should be the most competitive in the state with the likes of Carver, Thomasville, Reidsville, Jacksonville Northside, Shelby, and High Point Andrews.
Some teams that will fly under the radar but could end up being a factor late in the season are... R-S Central, South Rowan, NW Cabarrus, Chapel Hill, Southern Durham, Durham Hillside, and maybe even Concord.
I'll be releasing my top-25 rankings in August.
what about south stanly in 1A they will be a dark horse this as will West Stanly in 2AA
What about Mallard Creek Highschool I mean Went 10-1 Last season until an upsetting decision to take away all there wins due to inelibility and coming back with an even stronger willed team full of talent and there not even in the top ten!!!
How about East Mecklenburg?? We lost a couple defensive guys, but we return a very good football team. We will be a factor in th SW 4A and maybe they will finally give us some respect.. Independence lost 2 very key defenders this off season. I predicted they finish 3rd in the SW 4A this year and get bounced early in the playoffs. Also remember they lost 2 key assistants. One being the defensive Coordinator. LETS GO EAGLES and Butler and Big I you both come to the nest this year. Good Luck!!
WWere is M.C. whoever did this thing did not scout corectly
DA Creek!!!! Man everyone in this City better ask somebody. You talk about Indy practices well go out and watch Palmieri put his boys through there paces. Big, fast, and hungry. No need to put them in the top 10. They have Indy first and East Meck third game. The polls will take care of themselves. Win and you climb...
I can't believe West Charlotte is not in the poll. Langston do they not meet YOUR criteria anymore? I wouldn't count them out so quickly if I were you.
I agree the polls will take care of themselves after week one...Indy has a tough game, Butler Vs. Richmond and South Meck Vs. Charlotte Catholic....Polls will change quick after week one. Is it here yet??? Comon August 21.
Fayetteville Byrd will dominate 3A. They are loaded. What about Northern Guilford. Their defense will be stout with 5 Division 1 players on that side of the ball (Chris McCain, Keenan Allen, Gabe King to name a few)
Butler is LLLOOOOAAADDDEEEDDDD!!! Good luck tryin to stop them, even though they have the toughest schedule in the State.
Goodluck trying to stop butler? id like to see one of those "mighty" bulldawgs stop the purple knights this year. everyones countin out AK but the boys in purple are back and madder than ever.
