Independence star DB dismissed from team

For the second straight season, Independence High's football team has lost its best defensive player.

Patriots coach Tom Knotts told the Observer Tuesday morning that he had dismissed defensive back Victor Hampton from the team. Hampton is ranked No. 15 nationally at his position by scout.com He has committed to Florida.

Hampton told the newspaper he planned to move in with a family friend and attend school at South Carolina's Darlington High.

Read more on this developing story in tomorrow's Observer.

There had to be a REASON he was dismissed. Come on Observer---he's interviewed like he's a star--"I'm gonna move in with a family friend..." (way to tip off the HS Football people in SC to a potential season wiping infraction)...Coach Knotts does not do things lightly...this kid must have done something...

Anonymous said...

Another great 1% of the 1% headed to the Gayturds!!

Anonymous said...

Florida will revoke the offer if its a serious legal issue.

Anonymous said...

Theres always Lane Kiffin and Tennessee though lol

Knox-cheats said...

Yawn, wake me when they can beat Butler. Until then, who cares?

Anonymous said...

its the 3rd year in a row if you really check

Anonymous said...

Can you say "academic failure" and high school is easier in S.C?

Anonymous said...

Wow. What did this kid steal?

Anon said...

He must have been caught living in Indepedence's attendance or something equally egregious.

Anonymous said...

Hey Knox Cheats...Yawn,,wake me when Butler win a State Championship in football....just one. And last time I checked you guys fold against Indy every year like a cheap lawn chair. You guys are pathetic, and no wonder Richmond county is Indys ONLY competition...loser

Anonymous said...

Hampton was at Butler so this will be his third school in 3 years.

Anonymous said...

Wertz knows why he was dismissed, but he won't report anything that is negative about "his people". He just leaves it unsaid.

Anonymous said...

I have the inside info. He was dismissed because he is uncoachable. He was booted from Butler for the same reason. He was given second chances a million times. A kid without discipline will hurt a team no matter the talent level. His best option is to meet with Knotts and straighten up. 3 teams in 3 years looks bad, particularly when great coaches like Knotts and Newsome booted you.

Anonymous said...

Now Knotts has a good excuse when we kick his ass again this year( a Raider forever)

Anonymous said...

For the ignorant you should know the facts before you speak. Victor left Butler on his own accord and was actually going to leave Indy in the morning and Knotts got wind of it and wanted to beat him to the punch. He was also asked to come back to talk to Knotts and it was stated by several coaches that they want him back. Victor is on to bigger and better things for all the haters out there. Sorry your kids don't have D1 scholarship. For Knotts you didn't give him his talent and you can't take it away. As for Butler beleive me they regretted him leaving. As long as Florida knows the real deal who cares about all the naysayers with nothing else to do. Wherever he goes I am sure he will be a star.

Anonymous said...

If that's his parent, he's in trouble.

Anonymous said...

Get your facts straight Victor was not dismissed from Butler. He left. Now find someone else to hate on Victor is on his way to Friday Night Lights in Gainesville at the Florida Gators. Their opinion is the only what that matters and they have the REAL story. Ask yourself why the top players are not there.

Anonymous said...

Wow you really are ignorant aren't you. I think you're in trouble if you draw conclusions without the facts. Stop hating. You are probably one of the Indy players dads who are now hoping that their kid can get the chance to play now.Vic's mom I am sure is preparing to go to Florida and doesn't have the time or need to feed into this nonsense. Stop worshipping Knotts he is not God and is a man. Let's be for real. Vic don't lose any sleep over this. The haters will always be.

Anonymous said...

Wake me when this is over. Vic do what you have to do. Can't wait to see you in the Gator colors. Sure you will do great things. Their loss and I know they regret it.Good luck. Don't hold your head down. Not everyone is hating on you and do want you to succeed. There is always 2 sides to a story.I know for a fact that Victor left Butler he was not dismissed.Ask the players I am sure they will tell you the truth.

Anonymous said...

I guarantee you that the one who said they have the inside info is one of the Indy parents that was praying, waiting and watching in envy for an opportunity for their child wishing that it was their child. Now that's the inside story.

Anonymous said...

To the one who's talking about infractions. Please get a life. How much hate and envy do you possess?

Anonymous said...

ha ha. all of you are writing on a HIGH SCHOOL football article! Get a life.

Anonymous said...

That's right I agree but to those of you who don't have a life go ahead get it all out. All of the hate, envy, negativity, etc. It's good for your soul. So sad.

Anonymous said...

I know for a fact he was dismissed at Butler because I was there the day it happened. He tried to go to SC then but come back and was going to just play basketball for butler until the BB coach booted him. It wasn't until after that he went to Indy. From my understanding noone missed him at butler and a lot of people are glad he is gone from Indy. He is a great player but has a poor attitude.

Anonymous said...

As you all speak Vic is at a workout. When all of this is said and done I bet you won't hear anything negative coming from Vic and that goes to the character of this young man. I spoke with him and he had nothing bad to say. He just said it was time for him to part and that he still has love for those coaches and that he wishes them the best. I was impressed. He didn't say one bad thing about the situation. He's looking forward to going to Friday Night Lights in Florida and being the best that he can be.Now that's character- the Vic that none of you know personally I bet.

Anonymous said...

You are telling a lie. Victor was not dismissed from Butler but you can think what you want. If you were there and think that then you are slow upstairs and do not even warrant this comment. I could go detail for detail with you but ignorance is bliss so continue on with it.You have spoken a bunch of mistruths and keep talking about him I say it just shows all the hate. Its obvious you've spent a lot of sleepless nights hating on him. Wow I really feel sorry for you. The truth shall set you free. If any wanted him to go I am sure it is because they envied him. Maybe you should come to his going away party to see how many Butler and Indy players will be there. I'm sure you already plan to lurk around anyway.

Anonymous said...

Wow it's a good thing that as much of you that are hating on him that he has just as much that care about him and want nothing but the best for him. This is scary. I am speechless and all of this is coming from adults. Wow.Should he be getting restraining orders? Wow

Anonymous said...

All year long and even a week or so ago Knotts had nothing but accolades for Hampton but now, all of a sudden this kid is such a problem. There is something wrong with that picture but why hasn't anyone said anything about that. This Hampton kid is the only one that Knotts has come out publicly to say that he believes he is a Sunday player so that should tell you something. Knotts has nvever said that about any of his other kids but now all of a sudden in a week's time this. This does not add up. He must have known that this kid was going to leave for whatever reason and wanted it to look like it was on his doing as to why he was leaving. Think people. Again this is the only kid that Knotts whom you all worship and adore has come out with such highly regarded accolades and to go from 100 to 0 it doesn't add up.I'm just saying don't buy into all the hoopla here that it's all Hampton.

Anonymous said...

Hampton was not only a bad seed on the teams he played for but a pain to the teachers. He should patch things up and make some promises to Knotts and finish it out....three high schools looks bad. I promise you Florida will be calling up Newsome and Knotts. They have a lot more credibility than a player with 3 high schools. The talk that it was Hampton's decision is ludicrous. Do you think he would have said "I'll live with friends in Darlington" if he had planned this? Hampton was booted a week ago, ask the Indy players (he wasn't at practice last week). He asked to come back but Knotts was not convinced he meant to change his attitude. Ever heard the saying about one bad apple? Either he has to change his attitude (and possibly be allowed back on Indy's team) or his career is over at the high school level. Vic's mother should meet with Knotts NOW!

Anonymous said...

Victor, be a good boy and get out there and ENTERTAIN me because that is what you were bred for.

Anonymous said...

Wow that sounds ludicrous. I bet they thought that Vic was going to beg and were shocked to find out that he was already going to another school. He was asked to come talk by a coach and it was not entertained and I don't blame him. You can't play games with people. The gameplan backfired. Knotts thought that Vic was going to beg and plead him to come back as I am told other players have done that were kicked off of the team. Get your history and know your facts before forming opinions but this is just a blog. Good thing most of you are not reporters for God knows what you would be reporting. Vic has put Indy behind him seems to me and is looking forward to going to Gainesville to Friday Night Lights with the Florida coaches ready and waiting.

Anonymous said...

If Vic ends up at a third school, no way will Florida risk a valuable scholarship on him. He will have to go D2...He is tainted.

Anonymous said...

Victor is a true stud and this too shall pass Vic. What people say on the outside looking in doesn't matter. You could go to 10 schools and as long as the people who count know whats going on don't worry about what those who are looking and praying for bad things to happen have to say. Im always a big fan of the underdog. Let no weapon formed against you prosper. Let it be your motivation to succeed. T. Owens has gone through what you are going through and he has millions. Let that be your motivation. Noting but the best.

Anonymous said...

That's what they wanted him to do----beg and plead. I bet they were shocked and disappointed. Vic is originally from SC and has plenty of family and friends there for those of you who are worried about his living arrangements---DONT.

Anonymous said...

From an outsider's perspective, it looks there are a lot of people on this board who are looking to make excuses for this kid.

And whether or not it was his fault or not, this situation at least raises some red flags about this kid.

I wish him the best though.

Anonymous said...

Recruiting is becoming more difficult for Knox....

Anonymous said...

Again Vic is on his way to Friday Night Lights. Stop wishing bad things upon him. You can best believe Florida knew before Langston so give it a rest. And I bet they have the REAL Story. Tainted according to who-- you. There would probably be no college or nfl leagues if things went according to your opinions. You guys are so naive. Percy Harvin just went 1st round draft pick and he definitely had some character issues. I could go on but I think you guys are too naive to get it. Vic is not the first person in the world to have blemishes on his record--we can look at presidents, governors, parents, coaches, boy this seems like the presidential campaign with all the mudslinging going on. Boy we have some top leaders with pasts and thank Godthey didn't let naysayers like you deter them. Get real. Look at Gabe King he has been disqualified from playing NC high school ball for dishonesty with address and I promise you that has not interfered with his future. I bet the people there in his are were not half as harse as you all are being. Sad.Let's get some perspective here.

Anonymous said...

if you are going to hate coach Knotts now...please at least spell his name correctly...

Anonymous said...

That's probably your wish that he go D2. I heard that he was just invited to go to a USC camp by scout and they know about him leaving Indy. This leave will not affect his scholarship. He could play in Timbuktoo, Virginia, Boston, etc. this year and still go to Florida so wake up and smell the coffee.

Anonymous said...

His career being over at high school level. What else can he attain at the high school level? He already has his D1 offers and I am sure wherever he plays he is going to have an outstanding season. This has been accomplished with him going to 2 now 3 different high schools and not even playing his sophmore year and you don't think those schools that have offered him those D1 scholarships know that. Come on he didn't play his sophmore year and I am sure some of you thought that would hinder him as well.

Anonymous said...

Butler coaches dogged him to to Indy after he left and as we see that didn't stop Indy from putting him on the field. It goes to show that man doesn't give you your talent and he can't take it away. No matter how hard they may try and boy are they trying. Good for you Vic. Keep your eyes toward the prize don't let the traps that man has set for you stop you.Claim your destiny.

Anonymous said...

Here is the reason Florida will bail....If Vic switched to 3 high schools what would stop him from selling out Florida and leaving? He is not a team player. If he showed remorse and got Knotts to take him back, that could salvage his career. Otherwise, it is over.

Anonymous said...

florida wont do anything...they live off of arrest

Anonymous said...

will he qualify for d1?

Anonymous said...

Florida is not doing anything. My sentiments exactly. They are waiting for him to get there to Friday Night Lights. If anything the other D1 schools that offered maybe hoping for that so he could take one of their offers. Why should he go back to Indy. Who could trust that they wouldn't do that again. If Knotts made the decision then let him and Indy deal with it and allow Victor to move on. I wouldn't go back either after being dismissed.

Anonymous said...

Who is this Friday night lights guy? Does Vic have an entourage? This reminds me of guys like Mike Tyson and Michael Vick, guys who surrounded themselves with people who would never tell them they were wrong. Vic look in the mirror. Decide for yourself if there is a pattern here. Playing for team after team, coach after coach, discipline problems at school...Continue to blame others and listen only to the entourage or grow up and take reponsibility. Knotts and Newsome have developed a lot of young men who decided to become disciplined. If Hakeem Nicks, Mohammed Massaquoi, Chris Leak, Joe Cox, Dre Moore and hundreds of others stars could follow Knotts rules, you can too. Apologize to Knotts and repair your reputation.

Anonymous said...

Who are you? You would know Friday Night Lights if you broadened your horizons and read outside of the Observer. Repair reputation according to who--you. You don't matter just contnue to get your thoughts out here on this blog and try to get some sleep tonight. In a few days you will be looking for something else or someone to criticize. You are late and not of essence in this matter. Thank God people don't live on other people's thoughts or where would we be. I am sure Devontae Holloman who left as well has no regrets...there is life after Knotts.

Anonymous said...

I hope he does have an entourage to equal out all those who seem to have it out for him.

Anonymous said...

Holloman did regret leaving. His parents split and his dad moved to Rock Hill, he had to spend his senior year without his friends in a small school. His dad also ws spooked because Indy was being investigated and he wasn't sure Knotts would be coaching, a scary thought for a parent of a rising senior. Remember, both Hampton and Holloman committed before leaving Indy. Knotts deserves some credit. Many, many players owe him thanks for a free college education.

Anonymous said...

Holloman asked his dad to leave,,he said it wasn't fun at INDY anymore, he could have stayed after his parents broke up,,but he wanted to leave, jordan woods, brett lilly, and a few more left INDY, TK is a great coach,,but he has hurt a lot more kids than he has helped, if you get on his bad side,,he will say bad things about you to colleges, this i know,

As a Florida fan, in Gainesville, who has been to a couple FNLs...

FNL isn't what you make it out to be. Yes, coaches use it as a recruiting tool and to evaluate players, but it doesn't define anything about a player. Many high profile kids show up here and are complete busts, and the great majority of the hundreds of kids who attend aren't even any good.

The fact that this kid is looking to attend his 3rd high school is frankly a little bit of an eyebrow raiser, given that the descrition of the circumstances has him getting kicked off the team. Anyone who has been to a high school football game in the past 10 years or so knows that you have to have done something pretty messed up to get kicked off of a team.

You mention Percy Harvin as an example of a "questionable character" kid...well, Harvin was barred from competition by the state high school athletic association and wasn't booted from his team then, so I don't get your point - unless you're saying that Victor is even more of a character risk. By the way, I ran into Harvin at the Gainesville airport and he was a really nice kid, so whatever problems he had in the past, I can't comment on specifically but they weren't the kind that couldn't be dealt with by the coaching staff.

If Meyer and his coaches think that Voc can be dealt with, they will keep pursuing him, as long as he can keep his academics in order. If they hear the "REAL" story (your words) and determine that he's too much of a risk, then there's another 4 or 5 start recruit waiting to take his place.

Four-star defensive back and Florida recruit dismissed from high school team
Victor Hampton, a rising high school senior who is ranked as the No. 4 cornerback in the nation by rivals.com, has been kicked off his Charlotte Independence High School team. He is considered one of Florida's oral commitments for 2010.

Hampton's high school coach, Tom Knotts, told the Charlotte Observer that Hampton was dismissed from the team on Tuesday morning. Knotts did not give a reason for the dismissal.

Hampton has at least one previous arrest, according to police records. He was arrested on July 3, 2008 for misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

Hampton told the Charlotte Observer he will move in with family friends and attend a different high school.

And the hate continues. LOL lol lol lol. Yu need to get a life for yourself and stop devoting so much time to Vic's. lol lol lol

Anonymous said...

you better stay anonymous because I would have his family get you for lander and defamation because Vic has never been arrested and you have crossed the line. I feel sorry for you that your kid does not have the talent that this kid has that down tho the core of your being you hate so much. I will pray for you because you need help. You might be a coach as well. What is done in the dark will come to light and you will reap what you sow.

Anonymous said...

Knotts don't get scholarships it's their talent that gets them. Knotts can call or send film to any school in the world and they won't get a scholarship if they don't have the talent. What planet are you on? Im sure whatever school Vic went to he would have gotten a scholarship.

Anonymous said...

Life goes on----get one. So sad. He's moved on why don't you. Or is that the problem--that he has moved on.

Anonymous said...

Vic showed his character in the article this morning. I was very impressed by him and I have never met him and seems to me all of you that are so negative don't know him as a person either. Big ups to you young man and keep pushing ahead. This too shall pass and good luck with your trip to Florida this week. Have fun your senior year wherever you are and look forward to enjoying Florida. I wish you nothing but the best.

Anonymous said...

All of this hate and envy from adults this poor kid never had a chance. You did the right thing. The things you can change in life, change. Put your mistakes behind you. You are not the first one to make them nor will you be the last Victor. Remember as many people that are hating on you there are so many more people that care for you.

Anonymous said...

Have you or your child been invited to play in FNL or anywhere for that matter? Thought not. Enough said.

Anonymous said...

If Knotts can get scholarships then why can't his star quarteback Anthony Carruthers get a D-1 offer? That's because TALENT is the main ingredient. See he doesn't walk on water afterall. lol

Anonymous said...

I agree with the person that said that Knotts has hurt way more kids then he has helped. He has an outstanding receiver-Avious Capers- that doesn't even have tape and that's because he picks and chooses who he will and won't help.

Anonymous said...

All I can say is that he took a huge step down by moving to SC... I live near Darlington, and there is NOTHING HERE!!!! Darlington is a 3A school that is HORRIBLE, and there isn't even REAL competition down here! Would no other area school take him... Garinger, Providence...hmmmm... make me second guess the friends that said he left on his own accord.

Anonymous said...

Knotts has have seven players make the pros, more than the rest of Charlotte combined. Have players left? yes....but keep in mind he has had as many as 200 players come out for his team. Most will not see the field because of the sheer numbers. Brett Lilly left because Carrothers was anmed the starter. Avious Capers? Well, 6 guys caught multiple tds last year. Like Hakeem Nicks, his turn will come. Guys, Knotts hasn't lost to a CMS team since 1992 (with him on the field). Sounds like jealousy to me.
