Prep baseball/softball notes

■Charlotte Latin handed out its baseball team awards:

Chase Carbone, a junior outfielder, was named most valuable player. He batted .440, with four home runs and 25 RBIs, and was named to the All-Charlotte Independent Schools Athletic Association team.

Paul Paschal, a junior third baseman, was named most improved player, and Ben Hubbard, a senior pitcher, won most outstanding effort award.

■Alexander Central’s Chelsea Wilkinson, a freshman, pitched a no-hitter in a 12-0 victory against East Mecklenburg in the first round of the N.C. 4A softball playoffs Monday. She struck out 13.

Kristen Morris had four hits and four RBIs, Taja Hajer and Chelsea Sherrill had two hits apice and Jordan Setzer hit a home run for Alexander Central (25-1).

■Charlotte Country Day’s Jonathan Stutts, a senior baseball shortstop, committed to Washington and Lee University. Stutts had five doubles, a home run, 13 RBIs and eight steals this season.

■West Stanly scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Surry Central 4-3 in the 2A baseball playoffs, including the winning RBI by Jace Whitley.
West Stanly's Tyler Eudy was 2-for-3, including his eighth home run this season.

- Cliff Mehrtens
