Three Mecklenburg County girls soccer teams advanced to the N.C. 4A Western regional semifinals Tuesday night.
It is reminiscent of the county’s girls basketball teams, who filled all four spots in their regional semifinals in March.
All three soccer teams are from the Southwestern 4A. Butler (14-4-2), the No. 4 seed from the Southwestern, stopped ME-CA No. 1 North Meck 3-0. Ardrey Kell, ranked No. 2 in the state, improved to 19-0-1 with a 1-0 win over rival Myers Park. Finally, Providence (14-4-2) ended South Mecklenburg’s Cinderella run through the playoffs. The Sabres, who lost 4-0, had six wins when the playoffs started, but upset a No. 1 and a No. 2 seed en route to the regional quarterfinals.
Providence will play at Ardrey Kell in the regional semi later this week. That game must be played by Saturday. Butler will play at either Greensboro Grimsley or West Forsyth in its regional semifinal.
