Glen Taylor is new basketball coach at Concord Cannon

Glen Taylor is the new boys basketball coach at Concord Cannon. He is the school's third coach in three years.

Two years ago, Ron Johnson coached Cannon before leaving for an assistant's job at Georgia. Johnson has recently returned to the area as head men's coach at Davidson Day.

Last season, Erasto Hatchett, named as an interim coach, led Cannon to a share of the CISAA conference championship in Cannon's first year in the league.

Taylor starts July 1. He has more than 15 years experience and comes to Cannon from Christchurch School in Christchurch,Va., where he led its varsity basketball team to four consecutive Virginia Prep League championships in five years.

“We are very xcited to have Glen Taylor leading our boys’ basketball program,” says Cannon School Athletic Director Doug Maynard. “He brings a vast amount of interscholastic and NCISAA experience to Cannon. Glen is the right coach to build on our strong foundation and develop all levels of basketball at Cannon.”

Prior to coaching at Christchurch School, Taylor spent six years as head varsity and junior varsity coach at Kerr-Vance Academy in Henderson, N.C., during which he was a four-time Coastal Plains Independent Conference varsity basketball coach of the year. He began his coaching career at Lawrence Academy in Merry Hill, N.C., and received the Tarheel Independent Conference varsity coach of the year award twice during his four-year tenure.
