Charlotte Country Day will name its baseball field in honor of former coach Ed Walton before today's game against Charlotte Latin.
The dedication ceremony will be at 6:45 p.m., followed by the 7 p.m. game.
Walton, 63, coached baseball for 30 years through 2004, and continues to run Country Day's junior varsity football program. He's been a teacher there 36 years.
"I am overwhelmed to have a field named after me," Walton said. "Some of the people who have fields named after them here - Sally Dowd, the Blythe family, John Cook - were people I worked with and looked up to. It is aboout as big an honor as you can have."
More than 500 friends, former players, students and alumni are expected to attend. Many are traveling from out of state to return for Country Day's alumni weekend.
